What NOT to Store: Items That Need Special Care!
—
December 3rd, 2025
When it comes to using a storage unit, not everything is fair game. While you can store most household or business items, there are a few categories you should always avoid:
1. Hazardous Materials
Items that are flammable, toxic, or explosive should never be kept in a storage unit. These materials pose serious safety risks.
2. Living Things
No storage unit can safely support plants, animals, or anything living. Lack of ventilation, sunlight, and proper care makes storage units unsafe for them.
3. Weapons
Weapons of any kind should not be stored. They present unnecessary risks and are prohibited for the safety of everyone on the property.
4. Perishable Items
Food and other perishables can rot, attract pests, and create odors that affect neighboring units. For everyone’s protection, these items are not allowed.
5. Illegal Items
Stolen goods, illegal substances, or anything unlawful cannot be stored under any circumstances and can lead to serious consequences.
If you’re ever unsure about what can or cannot be stored, this list is a great place to start. And if you still have questions, we’re always here to help at Latch-iT Self Storage.
