Climate vs Non-Climate — What You Need To Know!

November 17th, 2025

Latch-iT offers climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled units for our customers to rent.  There are many positives to both.  Renting a non-climate or a climate unit really depends on what you intend to put in your unit.  Below are all the benefits of climate and non-climate storage units.

Climate-controlled units keep your storage unit within a certain temperature or humidity range. It allows you to know exactly what temperature your belongings will be out without the stress of the uncontrollable.  Climate is best used for furniture, bedding, rugs, clothing, and electronics.  Any items that you do not want to get weathered, humid, or damaged by outside factors. A good rule of thumb for climate-controlled units is to choose based off if the items you are storing came from the inside of your home or office. If they did, then choose climate-controlled.

Non-climate-controlled units do not regulate temperature or humidity.  These units are drive-up units, which are so convenient for quick and easy access.  You simply enter through our gated facility, drive up to your unit, and unload or load all of your belongings.  We recommend using non-climate for convenience, larger items, outdoor furniture, lawn equipment, cars, or holiday decor.  Anything that is not susceptible to heat damage or humidity fluctuations.  A good rule of thumb for non-climate-controlled units is to choose based on whether the items you are storing did not come from inside your home or office (i.e., garage, outdoor storage shed, etc.). If they came from outside areas around your home or office, then a non-climate-controlled unit would be the best option.

Thankfully, at Latch-iT, we can help you with any questions you may have about whether your stuff should go in a non-climate or climate-controlled unit.  We can always assist with any further questions on this topic.  Many of our customers choose either of these options.  It truly depends on what you prefer and what your items need.
